For Blood and Country, Wake Up!!

Today, June 25, 2009, Thursday. My nationality have been awaken again by one of people who are fighting for our country's freedom. Freedom not from foreign conquerers but freedom from poverty, corruption and irresponsible leaders. Our ancestors fought for our country's freedom before but unlike them, we are fighting against our fellowmen who abuses the power given to them and are being irresponsible, that instead of giving new hope and raising our country from poverty, they are the ones making our country sink into the bottom of the ocean of poverty and corruption. Many have fought for the freedom but only few are heard, and most of them were killed. Now that elections for new leaders is almost near, we should reflect on the mistakes that the past/current leaders are doing and let it be part of the criteria we will use in electing our new leaders for another 6 years to come. Imagine the past years full of suffering and issues an also imagine if this will happen again. What do you think would happen to our country and to us Filipino citizens? America is experiencing economical crisis but we are experiencing a far more worse crisis than them. 6 years of empty promise and corruption. 6 years of hunger and poverty. 6 years of hoping but nothing. The youth, as our national hero say, are the hope of our country. Let us be, youth or not, straight or not, short or tall, whoever we might be. This is our country, our life, our future, our choice to make. This is the time that we should never make the same mistake that we did this past years. Shout and be heard just like this people who are fighting for us now. Students, parents, writers, artists, celebrities and many more who are tired of this empty promises, tired of this suffering. And now, it is our tine to move. Don't be afraid to do what you think is right because life is worth risking for the future and for the good of millions/billions.

"Ang bayang walang bayani ay kawawa ngunit maskawawa pa ang bayang nangangailangan pa ng bayani" a passage taken from the video of Ms. Mae "Juana Change" Paner entitled "Bayani". I can't exactly remember the person who said this so I just acknowledge the video. I may not know a lot about Ms. Paner but one thing for sure, she is fighting for our country's freedom by enlightening us on what our country is experiencing now. Making videos that are images of the sufferings our country. Videos that enlightens the youth to fight for freedom. Videos that even if it could worth her life, she still continues on making them because she believe that we can change, she believe that we can achieve the freedom we are hoping for, that we will be free from poverty and corruption. That we really are the hope of our nation, our country, our family and our fellowmen. This day, I have met her, she went to our school and enlighten us youth about many things concerning our country. Especially because most of the students of my school are new voters for the elections. Even though many would laugh by the way she dress and act just to enlighten us. I know she is happy doing it because sacrificing for your country is better than living a comfortable life but doing nothing and continuing on being deaf, blind and paralyzed. She also stated that we should not pick or judge the candidates for presidency based on the advertisements we see on TV or hear on radios. We should know them better than the promises they are giving us because most of this promises would become empty when they actually achieve presidency. Also, don't judge the candidates by looks and words.

Another of the freedom fighters we have today, is a writer famous to most Filipino book lovers, Bob Ong. Known for his stories that reflects on the society we have today without fear and hesitation. His famous works are: ABNKKBSNPL Ako?!, Bakit Baliktad Magbasa ng Libro ang mga Pilipino, Ang Paboritong Libro ni Hudas, Alamat ng Gubat and the latest, Kapitan Sino. Works which represents or show Filipino characteristics and also the cancer of our country like crab mentality, drug pushing, corruption, poverty and also the wrong doings of politicians. May this stories inspire us in choosing the right person to elect. This should also make us realize that we in ourself can make a difference and do good and be part of reviving our dead freedom. May the story of Rogelio Manglicmot, a character given life by Bob Ong in his book Kapitan Sino, who is a superhero, a friend, a neighbor, a son and a lover who sacrifice his life for life of others and just to help them even if the people are against him. It is also in this story where I got inspired by the conversation of Mang Ernesto, father of Rogelio, and Rogelio. Where it is cleared to as that we really have the power to do change but we are afraid to do it and instead depend on a person who is willing to do it and call him a hero. There are many more enlightenment in Bob Ong's works but one sure thing. He also believes that we, the youth of our country, are the hope of this country to reclaim its freedom.

The play " Rizal is my President" is a very good play based from the book of Napoleon G. Almonte which talk about the oppinions and feelings of our national heroes against what is happening to our country now. Many questions are asked in play and still unanswered. How many heroes do we need before we move? How many revolutions would be need before we achieve our freedom? when will be the death of heroes, especially Dr. jose rizal, and patriotics or nationalist be enough for us to stop our wrong doings and learn from our mistakes? Until when would you wait for a hero considerng the fac that you could do something for the change that you want to have? Few questions but many answers. The play is quite good, it feels like it is the real Jose Rizal and other heroes, the way they answer.

There are many more people trying to enlighten, encourage and and help us to choose the right path and help out our sorrowing country, to reclaim the freedom that we almost lost, to restore the damage that we have done and to bring back the unity that we once have. This includes Ako Mismo, Ako ang Simula ng Pagbabago: Boto Mo Ipatrol Mo, the Universities Anti-ConAss and many more. May this be an inspiration, and may this help enlighten the people. Long live the Philippines. Proud to be Pinoy.
